Internship Opportunities
Direct Service Intern
Description: Hope Center seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist with direct service. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of working with victims of domestic and sexual violence while working for a private nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain facility, staff, volunteer, and client confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain records of all time spent with clients (i.e. hotline, counseling, etc.). Report all data in ETO (Efforts to Outcomes) accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist victims using the empowerment counseling model, schedule counseling appointments, co-facilitate support group and the Mom-on-a-Mission Program and complete shelter intake paperwork with new residents.
- Assist victims in obtaining emergency civil protection from abuse orders.
- As a mandated reporter, report suspected child abuse or concerns to the Department of Welfare.
- Provide referrals to appropriate systems and agencies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Counseling Team Leader.
Qualifications:
- Working towards a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, etc.)
- Must complete 45 hour state mandated training
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Self-motivated, good organization skills, detail oriented, ability to prioritize, and multi task
- Enthusiasm for the mission of Hope Center or working for a nonprofit
- Must acquire PA Criminal Record Check and PA Child Abuse Clearances
- Strong commitment to victim services and serving all victims with a feminist perspective, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer internship.

Marketing and Communications Intern
Description: Hope Center seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist with marketing and communications. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing and handling communications while working for a private nonprofit organization.
Responsibilities:
- Strengthen social media presence for the program and identify best connections/practices for the agency. Update and maintain Hope Center’s media presence, including scheduling Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter updates.
- Assist in planning, writing, and organizing quarterly eNewsletter.
- Assist in development and copy-editing of content for promotional materials.
- Designing marketing materials.
- Review website content and make recommendations for changes and updates.
- Draft communications specifically for donors/stakeholders, board members, volunteers, staff, and community regarding current activities, as well as sharing results following the event – including but not limited to text, one-page email, press releases, success stories, and flyers/brochures.
- Assist the agency in branding all communications materials/messages.
- Review strategic communication plan and provide new ideas and directions.
Qualifications:
- Working towards a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g. English, Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
- Firm grasp of available tools and platforms for social media
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with press and community contacts
- Self-motivated, good organization skills, detail oriented, ability to prioritize, multi task, and meet deadlines
- Enthusiasm for the mission of Hope Center or working for a nonprofit
